Poles

Poles are easy.  The more money you spend the better they are. The higher the price tag the stiffer and lighter the poles are.  The stiffer and lighter the poles are the less energy is required from you to move yourself forward.  Simple.  Buy the most expensive pole you can comfortably afford.  You will be very glad you did.

General fit guidelines for race poles are:

Skate poles should come up to the mouth or slightly higher when standing in normal street shoes.

Classic poles should come to the top of the shoulder or slightly higher when standing in normal street shoes.

Always err on the long side.  Poles can always be cut.  They cannot, however,  be lengthened.

Featured Nordic Poles
Swix
Triac
$350.00
$450.00 MSRP

After the debacle that was the Force 10 pole I was skeptical about the new Triac. It didn't take me long to lose that skepticism! At the SIA show in Denver last Febraury I immediately grabbed a Triac and the venerable Star. Thinking "they can't be very different. Can they?" Well, they are. The Triac is noticeably lighter and stiffer than the Star. I was, and am, very impressed with the new Triac. The triangular shaft adds stiffness and reduces wind drag while the new threaded baskets make adjusting to softer or harder tracks a simple task. Now if Swix could make a threaded cork grip I would be very, very, very happy!

Fischer
RC9
$129.95
$140.00 MSRP
A truly awesome pole for the money. 60% high modulus carbon fiber shaft, carbide tip, and Fischer's QF strap. Nice.

Fischer
RCS Carbonlite QF
$189.00 SALE!
$299.95
$329.95 MSRP
This new pole from Fischer is comparable to the Swix Triac. Swing weight and stiffness seem nearly identical. Fischer's new Quicfk Fit strap allows the user to get in and out of it without having to deal with the velcro. It has a zipper! Yeah - I know - a few of the straps broke last season. No worries ....they fixed the glitch. AVAILABLE FOR DEMO.

Swix
Team
$170.00 SALE!
$229.95
$245.00 MSRP
The Team pole is Swix' real workhorse pole. Nearly as light and stiff as the Star. The Team is a more durable pole. Perhaps a slightly better choice for those who do a lot of mass start races.

Swix
Star
$205.00 SALE!
$279.95
$299.95 MSRP
Long known as THE best Nordic race pole on the planet. No pole has won more Olympic and World Cup races than the Star. It's kinda hard to argue with that.
